The Poetry Book Society
Founded by T S Eliot and friends in 1953, the Poetry Book Society is a unique book club, providing information, guidance and discounts on the best contemporary poetry for a wide-ranging membership. The PBS's Poet Selectors choose the best book of the quarter, the Choice, which is sent to members along with the quarterly Bulletin, which provides a review of what's new in the poetry world.
The PBS is the largest dedicated poetry bookseller in the UK, and we also run education projects and poetry development projects.
The PBS also awards the prestigious annual T S Eliot Prize for poetry, and the T S Eliot Shadowing Scheme for sixth form students was first run in partnership with the English and Media Centre in 2006.
In 2005 the PBS relaunched its children's book club, the Children's Poetry Bookshelf, The CPB is now reaching new audiences of parents, grandparents and librarians. A poetry competition for 7-11 year-olds was added in 2006 and has run annually since then.
The PBS also runs www.poetrybookshoponline.com, a niche Internet poetry bookselling site which features all 50,000 poetry titles in print in the UK. Through this website the PBS has also become the sole selling agent for the Poetry Archive CDs, which can also be ordered direct from us.
